The blog of Rahoul Baruah from 3hv Ltd

What's going on?

My name is Rahoul Baruah (aka Baz) and I'm a software developer in Leeds (England).

This is a log of things I've discovered while writing software in Ruby on Rails. In other words, geek stuff.

However, I've decided to put this blog on ice - I would ask you to check out my business blog here (or subscribe here).

Trusted Computing

John Gruber is right again. There are technical advantages, the fantastic design, the stability, the general lack of frustration that Mac OS X has over Windows. Microsoft could build all of those things into Vista (if it had the time).

But there is one thing that Apple, Macintosh and Macintosh software has that Microsoft, Windows and Windows software simply does not have. That is trust. Silently installing a system-modifying piece of software simply destroys that trust and, once gone, it's not easily regained. How many times has Microsoft blamed third-party drivers for Windows instability and how many times have you cared?

Say no to Spyware on the Mac platform. Don't silently install Smart Crash Reporter.
